The department was alerted of the fire by Danbury 911 Center when a caller stated that they saw smoke coming from the second floor of 5 Main Street.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed the smoke and suspected that it was coming from a fire in the wall of the building.
The fire was subsequently upgraded to a second alarm to bring in additional fire crews, who worked quickly to extinguish the wall fire as well as a fire in the floor.
Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance to the approximate 25 people displaced for the night. No injuries have been reported.
The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene and is in the process of investigating the cause of the fire, which is still undetermined.
